Jaakari Info

Wed Aug 30, 2006 2:23 pm

Jaakari Info:

The Jaakari are the eldest of the young races in this portion of the galaxy. They are technology advanced, (TL 7) and well traveled. They inhabit an area of approximately 100 light years square. Due to semi-hospitable conditions, on the homeworlds, Jaakari as a race are not very numerous.

System Info:

The Jaakari inhabit 4 primary worlds. With several colonies scattered within 50 light years of the home planets. By a strange twist of fate, most Jaakari colony worlds have proven to be a disappointment to the Jaakari.

Jaakari Prime, the “homeworld” of the Jaakari. Jaakari Prime is the most populous planet. It is the center of Jaakari government, research, and commerce. Jaakari Prime is not the original Jaakari homeworld. Jaakari 1 being the place of the Jaakari origin. Some time in the distant past, the Jaakari colonized Jaakari Prime. Shortly thereafter they colonized Jaakari 2 and 3.

Jaakari 1 is a hot, humid world. The majority of the planet is covered in semi-tropical rain forest. Broken only by high arid plateaus. As well as several mountain ranges. The planet has no axial tilt, meaning no discernable seasons. Jaakari 1 is hot and humid year round. Day time temps average 104 F in the mid latitudes. Temperatures at the equator are much higher. The equatorial region of the planet is surrounded by continuous bands of thunderstorms. Fueled by convection currents and the high humidity. As well as evaporation from Jaakari 1’s shallow seas. These storms move randomly, into the northern and southern latitudes. Bringing rain and high winds to the endless tracks of jungle that cover most of the planet. These storms are seasonal, with an increase in activity at the closest approach to the system primary. The polar regions are covered by swamp lands, and large shallow rivers. Native animal and plant life has adapted to these conditions to an extreme. All life forms, with few exceptions, are very dangerous. Hunting and survival skills of native life forms have adapted to a high degree. Some native plants can cause an injury, anywhere from, severe chemical burns to death. As a result, Jaakari as a people have learned to adapt to this environment. Most Jaakari cities are built upon the top of the many plateaus that project above the jungle. Construction is primarily of a sun baked ceramic like material. Due to a lack of suitable area to build buildings. Jaakari tend to build up rather than out.

Jaakari Prime, 2, and 3 are terraformed worlds, or at least Jaakari formed worlds. The technology of the Jaakari allowed them to form the three planets to be an almost mirror of Jaakari 1. Leaving Jaakari Prime as slightly more habitable. Native flora and fauna were transported to the new worlds. Combining with the surviving native life forms, the life forms of the terraformed worlds proved to just as dangerous as the original ones found on Jaakari 1.

With the threat of unending Baal invasions. A considerable military force has been deployed. Three fortress worlds have been garrisoned. Fleets deployed into threatened areas, and stockpiles of supplies have been pre-positioned.

Jaakari Mercenary World
A planet was colonized with the intention of developing a mercenary clearing house. This planet and its details will developed further in the future.

Jaakari Physiology

Jaakari are a centauroid, with 4 legs, 2 primary, and 2 secondary arms. The quadruped portion of the body resembles that of a large terran tiger. The torso is vaguely humanoid, with the notable exception of a double set of shoulders. Which accommodate the Jaakari’s quadruple arms. The arms are made up of a primary, and a secondary set. The primary arms are just that. They are used for most tasks, from heavy lifting, to more mundane everyday tasks. The smaller secondary arms are for more delicate work. Not as strong as the primary, but much more dexterous. The upper or primary arms can be used in conjunction with the lower secondary arms. All Jaakari personal weapons are designed with this unique anatomical configuration in mind. The head sits atop a short neck. The head itself is canine like. A pair of tall pointed ears is at the top of the head. The long pointed snout contains sharp conical teeth. The nose situated at the end of the snout, contains not only organs to detect sent, but can detect heat as well. The large eyes have a double pupil, looking much like an hour glass lain on its side. They have very good lowlight vision, as well as the ability to detect even the smallest of motion. The position of the eyes provide the Jaakari with a 270 degree field of vision. The eye is not as good at long distances. The Jaakari excel at quick, violent, short ranged encounters. Because of this adaptation reflexes are excellent.

Jaakari average 6 to 7 feet long, 5 to 6 feet tall and weight between 250 to 400 lbs. Color of individuals can vary between light tan, to brown, to grey, to light green. The body is covered with a fine downy like coat. This is actually made up of very fine, hard, quills. These quills stand on end during high stress situations. In the distant past, the quills from the back of the head, down the spine, to the tail, were much longer and very sharp. As the Jaakari developed more and more technology. These quills became more unimportant as a defensive feature. Over the generations they have devolved into a short hard covering. Offering the creature little in real defense to physical damage.

The brain is very complex. It is divided into three primary zones. The right and left hemispheres are fully functioning brains. They contain exact duplicate copies of the Jaakari’s brain functions. From automatic functions to personality, knowledge and training. Either side of the brain can operate independently from the other. I some case the Jaakari can appear to be able to complete two separate tasks at once. The central section of the brain is the control center. It has the ability to make the right and left side work in parallel. It also controls the flow of information, from one side to the other. For simple tasks the two brains can work as separate body control centers, sharing body parts to accomplish the task at hand. When complex operations are required, the central control center kicks in. Using the full power of the two brain hemispheres in parallel. Complex problems can be quickly overcome. The Jaakari cannot survive the loss of any one of the three portions of its brain. The sections are so interlinked with each other. The brain cannot function without the other sections.

Jaakari Mercenary World

77.4 light years from Jaakari Prime is the G9V class main sequence star Katzakiari. Of the planets circling the star, the 3rd planet was found to be habitable the Jaakari found it to be somewhat on the cool side, but habitable nonetheless. Most of the planet is covered by deep ocean. With several large continents scattered around the globe.

The port city of First Landing was established on the largest land mass. The planet proved to be a disappointment for the Jaakari, who had established the colony. The weather was to cool for comfort. Most of the native life forms were sea dwellers. The planets natural resources were not of a high enough quality to make terran forming worth while.

The strategic position of the star however, made the marginal colony world somewhat more important. With the location of the Baal front effectively cutting off Jaakari space from most other races. The colony found itself in one of the few locations beneficial to trade and commerce.

The Jaakari have a long and storied history of mercenary service. Over the last several generations the trend toward the role of advisor has displaced the role of direct combat. The Mercenary Council decided to establish a forward base of operations. In order to provide services to other races, after the Baal cut off established trade routes. Jaakari specialize in small wars. Light infantry, mortars, recon elements, ect. They are not equipped for large scale warfare. The vehicles they field are light multipurpose types. A considerable amount of these are automated.

The port at First Landing was established as the first of several merc clearing houses. First Landing has grown into a sizeable city, devoted entirely to the trades of fighting limited wars. Mercenary halls, armorys, weaponsmiths, vehicle manufactures, ect, ect. Can all be found in First Landing. Banks and legal organizations can be found in abundance as well. Provisions for most space fairing life forms can be found in First Landing. As a result the city can be a rough and tumble place. The space port, and surrounding warehouse district, however is considered neutral territory. Any one group that causes trouble at the port. Will be dealt with by all of the others.

I thought that the average tech level for all races was about 5/6. So far my understanding is that the only race so far that has a 7 is the Uhlani <sp> guys Dustin created.

Jaakari are the single exception. Balanced by the fact that there are not many Jaakari.
